Elementary

Our curriculum balances concept, skill, and character development whilst addressing social, physical, emotional and cultural needs, as well as academic welfare. It emphasizes guided inquiry, collaboration, communication, problem-solving, critical thinking and subject competencies.

In lower elementary school, language arts instruction focuses on inspiring students to read, learn, share and speak confidently. Kindergarten to Grade 3 focuses on reading skills, while Grades 4–5 focus on vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Writing includes opinion, narrative, and informative writing with clear goals and feedback.

Kindergarten to Grade 5 social studies curriculum starts with personal relationships, and expands to include geography, economics, citizenship, local and global communities, different cultures, and American history from migration to the 20th Century.

In science, students explore plants and animals, matter and forces, weather and the sun, moon, and stars. They learn about the impact of plants and animals on the environment, the properties of matter, weather patterns, and the movement of celestial bodies. They also study the interdependence of organisms, the effects of forces on objects, and the interaction of Earth’s systems.

Kindergarten to Grade 5 students connect, grow and refine their math skills when we use our proven “metacognitive” approach. We focus on six core areas: number and numeration, operations and computation, data and chance, measurement and reference frames, geometry, patterns, functions and algebra.

Our specially-designed program helps Grade 5 students make the transition to Middle School. Initially, they stay in one classroom with secondary teachers coming to them. Over time, they gain more responsibility and eventually attend subject teachers’ classrooms to receive instruction.
