What does a “Good Education” mean to you?
Good Education means transforming the whole child, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically to become a life-long disciple of Christ, servant of people, and lover and learner of knowledge.

What is the most important thing you want to pass along to your students?
I would like to continue to share my passion for God, compassion for people, and love for teaching and learning, by connecting in whatever way possible to those within the ISW community and outside in the city of Wuxi.
What is your favorite memory or experience in ISW?
I have been here less than a week, but I do love the way we were welcomed into the community: with serving hands to help with the suitcases, open hearts to welcome us when we came into the apartment, practical supplies to get us started, liaison support to guide us into daily living, and meals in the company of new friends to acquaint us with them as well as Chinese culture.

What is something unique you want others to know about yourself?
I was born and raised in South Africa where I went to university and taught German, English, and Afrikaans to high school students. I then moved to Germany where I taught high school and adult English and German for 12 years. I met my husband there, we had two children and moved to California where I have been teaching middle school English, Spanish, and other foreign languages for many years. I am so excited to begin living, teaching, and serving on my fourth continent of the world in Asia: China!

A great education

A great education happens when teachers who care, positively influence students who have a desire to learn.

The most important thing I want to pass along to my students

I want my students to know that I care about their lives, their education, and their future. While I want them to learn the content I am teaching, I really want them to learn how to live life well. I want them to learn how to be lifelong learners who embraces their unknown futures.

My favorite experiences at ISW

I absolutely love it when I see a student grasp a concept or an idea for the first time. There is a light that shows in their eyes as the realization of something new or different comes into their mind. One of my goals is to help students make these connections. When they do, learning happens and their experience and mine is enhanced.

More about me

I have spent my entire live educating people ranging from little children to older adults. I am blessed to have a wonderful wife Robin and 3 children Josh, Abby, and Ben. Living and working in China has been an adventure I doubt I will ever forget.
