This week’s student interview is with Stella Cha. Stella has been accepted and will attend the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York where she plans to study Fashion design. FIT, part of the State University of New York, has had many notable alumni and past students including Calvin Klein and Michael Kors. In the 2019 CEOWORLD ranking for the best Fashion Schools, FIT was the number one school in the world.
Stella first came to ISW only two and a half years ago and since then has been able to follow her passion for art and dramatically improve her English. Coupled with her incredible talent and high work ethic, Stella not only impressed FIT’s faculty with her art portfolio but also achieved a high enough TOEFL (Test Of English as Foreign Language) score in order to meet FIT’s English acceptance criteria.
She cites that ISW helped her to improve and practice her artistic skills and English in many different ways. She has been to the Fine Arts Festival held every year in Tianjin to show her work but also be inspired by the work of other students from all over China. Stella’s English improved because of ISW’s English curriculum and the ISW language policy in which students must speak English at all times. Not only that, she was able to practice her listening and speaking skills with other students during free time and on school trips.
Because she came to ISW, Stella was able to make friends with students from around the world, through this she learned more about other cultures and it gave her the confidence to go for her dreams and attend a University in the United States.
Lastly, Stella echoed the sentiment that the care ISW teachers give is unrivaled. ISW teachers go beyond simple instruction and really make an effort to engage each student as an individual.
