International School of Wuxi teachers are active in the community. Mike Klumpp has visited several primary schools in the Wuxi area teaching English to area students. He has introduced students from grade 3 to grade 6 to both English and American Culture. Together with their local teachers they learn skills, explore culture and practice speaking. "I love it." says Klumpp. "The Chinese culture is so rich and the people wonderful. It is an honor to serve these young people, many who come from migrant worker families and rural parts of China where there are no foreigners." Students and teachers sing songs together, read books and poetry and see powerpoint presentations introducing everything from family to foods to cities around the world.
We are incredibly thankful to have staff that care for the community even outside of ISW. Mike Klumpp is just one of many staff at ISW who constantly engage with neighboring communities. Our staff immerse themselves and enjoy the different cultures that they are surrounded by, and even helps us better understand how to nurture and teach our very own ISW students.
